Our Philosophy
Learn the method. Understand your body. Evolve your practice.
At Evolution Pilates Studio, we believe movement has the power to transform lives.
Pilates is more than exercise, it is a lifelong practice that develops strength, mobility, endurance, balance, control, coordination, and confidence. Originally named Contrology by Joseph Pilates, the method is founded on the belief that movement should be performed with intention, precision, and conscious control. Every session is an opportunity to move with greater awareness, reconnect with your body, and build a foundation for long-term health and wellbeing.
Our teaching is grounded in the traditional Pilates Method and informed by my training as a fourth-generation instructor in the Jay Grimes lineage. This heritage honours the authentic principles of Contrology while recognising that every body is unique. We respect the integrity of the method and apply it thoughtfully to each individual, creating a personalised approach that supports your movement journey.
We believe quality movement matters. Rather than simply completing exercises, we focus on understanding the body, improving movement patterns, developing body awareness, and building lasting strength and confidence through mindful, purposeful practice.
No two bodies are the same. Every client's programme is thoughtfully tailored to their goals, experience, movement history, and individual needs, whether you are beginning Pilates for the first time, returning after injury, navigating pregnancy or postnatal recovery, enhancing athletic performance, embracing healthy ageing, or looking to deepen your existing practice.
Through Private Sessions, Duet Sessions, our signature Open Studio experience, Group Reformer, and specialised movement programmes, we provide a pathway for every stage of your Pilates journey. Our goal is not only to help you move better, but to help you understand your movement, develop independence, and build a lifelong relationship with the Pilates Method.
At Evolution Pilates Studio, you'll find a welcoming boutique environment where movement is celebrated, progress is personal, and every client is supported with expert guidance and genuine care.
Because when you move well, you live well, and that is where true evolution begins.
"Change happens through movement, and movement heals"

Our Approach
Every body is different. Every journey is unique.
At Evolution Pilates Studio, we combine the authentic principles of the traditional Pilates Method with individualised programming, expert guidance, and thoughtful progression. Rather than simply teaching exercises, we teach the method, helping you understand how your body moves so you can build confidence, independence, and a lifelong movement practice.
Our teaching is grounded in the traditional Pilates Method, originally known as Contrology, and informed by my training as a fourth-generation instructor in the Jay Grimes lineage.
Jay Grimes, a first-generation Pilates teacher who studied directly with Joseph and Clara Pilates, believed that Pilates is far more than a workout, it is a lifelong practice of understanding your body, refining movement, and developing strength, balance, and stage of life. Whether you attend a Private Session, Duet, Group Reformer class, or our signature Open Studio experience, every programme is designed to and ease in everyday life. This philosophy continues to shape the way we teach at Evolution Pilates Studio.
Every client is treated as an individual, with sessions tailored to their unique body, movement patterns, goals, and stage of life. Whether you attend a Private Session, Duet, Group Reformer class, or our signature Open Studio experience, every programme is designed to meet you where you are and evolve as you progress.
Rather than encouraging clients to rely solely on the instructor, our aim is to help you develop awareness, confidence, and independence in your movement. Through personalised guidance, education, and consistent practice, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the Pilates Method and the skills to continue progressing throughout your life.
Our signature Open Studio experience embodies this philosophy by giving clients the opportunity to work through their own individualised programmes while receiving expert guidance, feedback, and support in a focused small-group environment.
Whether you're new to Pilates, recovering from injury, navigating pregnancy, rebuilding after childbirth, enhancing athletic performance, embracing healthy ageing, or simply looking to move and feel better, our goal is to help you build a sustainable Pilates practice that supports your health and wellbeing for life.

Our Signature Pilates Experience
Open Studio
A personalised approach to developing your Pilates practice
Open Studio is a unique opportunity to experience Pilates as a personal practice while continuing to receive expert guidance and support.
The Pilates Method, originally known as Contrology, was developed by Joseph Pilates as a system of mindful movement that builds strength, control, balance, and body awareness. Inspired by the traditional Open Gym approach within this method, Open Studio allows each client to work through an individualised Pilates programme designed specifically for their body, goals, movement patterns, and level of experience.
Following an initial Private Session, your instructor will develop a personalised programme to guide your exercises, sequencing, and progression. During Open Studio sessions, you move through your programme at your own pace while your instructor is present to provide feedback, refine your technique, answer questions, and introduce appropriate progressions.
With a maximum of four clients per session, Open Studio provides a focused and supportive environment where you can build confidence, improve your technique, and gain a deeper understanding of the Pilates Method.
Rather than simply following a class, Open Studio encourages you to become an active participant in your own practice. As you learn how your body moves and responds to exercise, you'll develop the knowledge, confidence, and independence to continue progressing over time connected to Jay Grimes, this approach honours the belief that Pilates is more than a workout; it is a lifelong practice.
Open Studio reflects the philosophy at the heart of Evolution Pilates Studio, individualised instruction, thoughtful progression, and movement with purpose. Grounded in the traditional Pilates Method and informed by a fourth-generation teaching lineage connected to Jay Grimes, this approach honours the belief that Pilates is more than a workout; it is a lifelong practice of learning, refinement, and continual growth.
Ideal for clients of all ages and abilities, including those returning from injury, navigating pregnancy, recovering after childbirth, or seeking a more personalised approach to Pilates, Open Studio offers an experience that evolves with you, helping you move with greater strength, confidence, and ease throughout every stage of life.
Discover it in your own body, like kids pushing boxes or learning to get on a swing; they fall and get up again.

Founder Lauren Hulbert
Meet Lauren
Growing up on a farm in the Snowy Mountains as part of a large family taught me the value of hard work, resilience, and the importance of caring for both body and mind. Those early experiences shaped who I am today and inspired my lifelong passion for movement.
My journey began with dance. After completing my Diploma in Dance through the British Ballet Organisation, I spent 16 years teaching and refining my understanding of movement. Dance taught me precision, discipline, and the incredible potential of the human body. Over time, I became fascinated by Pilates and the way it complemented dance, not only by developing strength and control, but by helping people move with greater ease, awareness, and confidence.
In 2019, I completed my Diploma in Pilates Instruction with Polestar Pilates Australia, allowing me to transition into a career focused on helping people move better, recover from injury, and build lasting strength. Pilates has given me the opportunity to combine my love of movement with a genuine passion for supporting others on their own movement journey.
I believe learning never stops. Pilates is a lifelong practice, and as a teacher, I continue to deepen my understanding of the method so I can provide the most meaningful experience for every client.
Most recently, I have continued my studies within the Jay Grimes lineage, a teaching tradition that honours the original work of Joseph Pilates. As a direct student of Joseph Pilates, Jay Grimes dedicated his life to preserving and passing on the original principles of the Pilates Method, emphasising precision, control, quality of movement, and a deeper understanding of the body.
Studying within this lineage has transformed the way I approach teaching Pilates. It has reinforced the importance of teaching the method as a practice, helping clients understand their bodies, develop awareness, and build confidence in their own movement.
Honouring the original Pilates Method through personalised teaching, purposeful movement, and a commitment to helping every client develop a lifelong practice.
This philosophy has shaped the evolution of Evolution Pilates Studio and the way we work with clients today: through personalised programming, thoughtful progression, and creating an environment where every person can develop their own Pilates practice.
My goal is simple: to create a welcoming and supportive space where every person feels seen, encouraged, and empowered. Whether you are stepping into a studio for the first time, returning after injury, or looking to refine and deepen your practice, I will meet you where you are and help guide you towards where you want to be.
I truly believe Pilates is for everybody. My greatest joy is seeing clients become stronger, move with greater freedom, and leave each session feeling better than when they arrived.
